Preparing for Your Treatment
The good news is that the treatment process is virtually the same, no matter which filler we use to treat your specific needs. In order to prepare for the treatment, we may ask you to follow some specific directives. These directives may include avoiding blood-thinning medications and supplements, including anti-inflammatory medications, fish oil, St. John’s wort, and other blood-thinning products.
Additionally, you may be asked to abstain from alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before your treatment to ensure that you achieve the best results. At your consultation, once we confirm you are a good candidate for one of these fillers, we will provide you with a complete list of instructions on how to prepare for your dermal filler appointment.
The Treatment Process
When you arrive at your treatment, come with clean skin free of product and makeup. If you’re coming from work or have an event beforehand and can’t show up with a clean face, your injector will be able to cleanse your skin prior to your treatment. If needed, we can apply a topical numbing cream to your skin that can help you maintain your comfort throughout the injection process.
However, many fillers contain a mild numbing agent called lidocaine which helps make the injection process comfortable. Our injectors will take every step possible to help you have a comfortable injection experience. If you do choose to use a numbing cream during your treatment, you’ll need to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment so that we can apply the numbing solution to your skin, and it can take effect before your appointment begins.
Post-Treatment Care
Not only will you have to follow some pre-treatment instructions, but we will also provide you with post-treatment care directives. Typically, you will be asked to avoid working out for 24 hours after your appointment, so if you want to get your workout in, be sure to do it before your scheduled treatment.
Also, you may be asked to continue to avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications and supplements for a specific amount of time, as well as avoid hot environments that will increase your body temperature.
